Qantas flight returns to LA due to emergency

QANTAS AIRBUS A330-202 VH-EBQ (MSN 1198)

Like Vietjet, Qantas also faced challenges as a flight from Los Angeles (LAX/KLAX) to Brisbane (BNE/YBBN) had to return to Los Angeles. QF16 departed from runway 25R at 8:57 pm and climbed to flight level 320. After two hours and fifty minutes, the Airbus A330 turned back towards Los Angeles. Prior to landing, the aircraft completed a ten-minute circuit and then safely landed on runway 24R at 2:45 am, five hours and forty-eight minutes after departure.

The aircraft requested a priority landing but not an emergency landing, a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement to local news outlets.

“The pilots followed normal procedures and returned to LA,” the spokesperson said.
No injuries were reported, and the aircraft will be inspected before returning to service, Qantas stated.
Customers had been provided accommodation and have been rebooked on alternative flights today.
