Hong Kong Airlines returns to Gold Coast

HONG KONG AIRLINES AIRBUS A330-343 H-LNM (MSN 1358)

Hong Kong Airlines is set to relaunch long-haul flights to Australia's Gold Coast (OOL/YBCG) and Vancouver (YVR/CYVR) early in the upcoming year.

Starting on the 17th of January Hong Kong Airlines will resume its service to the Gold Coast with an Airbus A330-300, operating four times weekly.
Additionally, the airline will reinstate flights to Vancouver on the 18th of January 2025, with the same aircraft model, running twice a week.

The A330-300s used for these routes will feature a two-class cabin configuration, including lie-flat business class seats arranged in a staggered 1-2-1 layout and a 2-4-2 configuration for the economy class. The airline had suspended several routes due to the pandemic-induced flight bans and border closures. Nevertheless, it has been actively rebuilding its network, and now reports that its flight capacity has returned to pre-pandemic levels, with an average passenger load factor of about 85%.

Moreover, Hong Kong Airlines anticipates achieving its annual passenger traffic goal of over five million by this year's end.

By 2024's conclusion, Hong Kong Airlines' fleet is expected to consist of roughly 30 aircraft. To facilitate its expansion, the airline has incorporated several Airbus A330-300s into its fleet and has recently introduced its first Airbus A321, designated for regional routes.

Prior to the pandemic, Hong Kong Airlines operated a long-haul network that included destinations like Los Angeles (LAX/KLAX) and San Francisco (SFO/KSFO), utilizing Airbus A350-900 aircraft. However, financial challenges during the pandemic compelled the airline to sell all its A350s and suspend the long-haul services they provided.
