Air Canada's "Twice as nice"

With heavy fog closing Brisbane's airport yesterday for a few hours many aircraft diverted to other airports, that included the daily Air Canada 787. Like the Emirates 777 and the Qantas 747, Air Canada diverted to Sydney. Late last night Air Canada flew into Brisbane as AC 035, and parked on the logistics apron all night.

With no fog around today all operations were normal at Brisbane meaning todays flight could land without issues. Air Canada 036, left on time at 10.40am and the delayed flight, AC 2036,  left this afternoon at 2.45pm. With Air Canada being one of my favourite airlines its always nice to see, but when you get two in one day, it makes it "twice as nice".

Passenger dies in flight / another after flight.

These two stories are really sad and our thought and prayers go out to the passengers family and friends.

A Qantas flight was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Adelaide (South Australia) after a passenger died on board. The early morning Qantas flight was travelling from London to Sydney via Singapore when a medical emergency occurred, a Qantas spokeswoman said. Flight crew and a doctor travelling aboard battled to save the stricken female passenger but were unsuccessful.

The plane landed at Adelaide airport at about 4.30am. "Our crew did everything they could, including helping perform CPR with a doctor who was on board, but unfortunately the passenger has passed away,” the spokeswoman said. "Our thoughts are with the passenger's family."  The flight took off for Sydney at about 6am and landed there about two hours behind schedule.

In another story, A man, whose “unbearable” odour caused a plane to make an emergency landing after passengers vomited, has died from tissue necrosis, which doctors misdiagnosed as a “beach infection”. Russian musician Andrew Suchilin caused passengers on the Transavia flight to faint and vomit due to the “unwashed” smell emanating from him. The Boeing 737 was forced to make an emergency landing in Portugal so that Mr Suchilin could be removed and given medical attention. Belgian passenger Piet van Haut told the Express: “It was like he hadn’t washed himself for several weeks. Several passengers got sick and had to puke.” The 58-year-old apparently contracted an infection while on holiday in the Canary Islands and was prescribed antibiotics for what he was told was an “ordinary beach infection”. However, the infection caused his body tissue to die and worsened on the flight – causing the odour. He was contained in the plane’s bathroom while the flight was diverted but his wife Lidia has now confirmed that her husband has died. A Transavia spokesperson said: “The aeroplane diverted because of medical reasons, but it is indeed right that he smelled quite a bit.” The company added in a statement: “We can confirm that a stopover of flight HV5666 (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – Amsterdam) has taken place on Faro (Portugal). This was a precautionary measure in relation to a passenger for medical reasons.

Two airports / two states / two hours

It was time to head home after a few great days in Sydney. My flight was at 3.30pm and boarding was 3.10 but I got to the airport at 2.15pm. I went straight up to the Qantas Heritage Museum to do some plane spotting. Although you are shooting through thick curved windows, it really is the best spot (from the Qantas terminal) to get photos.

Landing in Brisbane right on 5pm I knew Singapore and Emirates weren't far behind, so I went up to the top level of the carpark and grabbed a few shots before leaving for home.
