Saturday Spotting

I had to drop my daughter into the city for about 3 hours, so I decided to go out to the airport. Even though I love aviation so much, I think Brisbane is a very boring, disappointing airport. We get the same small amount of airlines and they (the internationals) bring in the same registered aircraft over and over.

Riverfire rehearsals

With the 2019 Riverfire upon us we have had the usual RAAF practice runs yesterday and today.
Yesterday I got to the advantage point at Kangaroo Point around 12.45pm and while I waited I thought I would take a few photos of the city and one of our famous river boats - the Kookaburra Queen as it gracefully steamed its way up the river.

Yesterday at 1pm on the dot we had a Boeing C-17A Globemaster III with the callsign "Stallion Zero Three" do a few low level runs over the city.

Then today again at 1pm on the dot we had another military aircraft do a practice run. this time it was an F/A -18F Super Hornet. There were suppose to be two aircraft but only one turned up...

Then after two low level swoops over the city the F/A18 climbed away and headed back to Amberley.
Everyone started walking away.. including me..  THEN just as I got to the car the second one came racing over the city at full speed. Unfortunately I didn't have time to get back to my spot and I had to make do with the position I was at.

What is Riverfire
Riverfire is one of Australia's leading international arts festivals, and is held each September in Brisbane. Its presence dominates the city for three weeks in September and its line-up of classical and contemporary music, theatre, dance, comedy, opera, circus and major public events such as Riverfire attracts an audience of around one million people every year.
The close of the festival is celebrated by a huge fireworks display with fireworks coming from barges in the river and from the roof of many buildings around the city and of course the RAAF aircraft displays.
