On the 24th of June, my family and I were heading home from our stay in Bangkok. Our flight wasn't leaving until 9.30 pm but my wife and I headed out to the airport early, getting there about midday. I had done some research on viewing spots around the airport, and I knew there was a dedicated plane spotting (viewing deck) area in the terminal. I had read that it wasn't all that great, but I thought I would check it out first, before moving on to plan B.
If you are happy to shoot between structural pillars and two sheets of glass, then, like me, you could make it work. Plan B meant standing outside in 35-degree heat with no close toilet or seating. The photos aren't as crisp and sharp as I'd like, but shooting between two sheets of glass, I was satisfied with what I got.
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK/VTBS) is the main international airport serving Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. Located in Racha Thewa commune, it covers an area of 3,240 ha (32.4 km2; 8,000 acres), making it one of the biggest international airports in Southeast Asia and a regional hub for aviation.
The airport is 2 metres (5 feet) AMSL and has three asphalt runways.
