Filmmaker accuses United Airlines employees of stealing professional camera

UNITED AIRLINES BOEING 787-9 N29981 (MSN 66142)

A filmmaker is accusing United Airlines employees of stealing a professional grade Blackmagic 12K camera valued at over $8,000 US. The camera vanished from checked luggage after a domestic flight, and the passenger believes United baggage handlers were responsible.

Despite presenting receipts, travel documentation, and filing a police report, the airline has only offered a $100 travel voucher as compensation. The situation escalated when United allegedly informed the customer that surveillance footage from the baggage carousel-footage that could have revealed what happened--was mysteriously "unavailable." The traveler described interactions with United staff as suspicious and unprofessional, further reinforcing their belief that the camera was stolen.

After United abruptly closed the claim, the frustrated passenger turned to social media to share their story. According to U.S.Department of Transportation regulations, airlines are liable for lost or stolen baggage up to $4,800 per passenger on domestic flights. Since two travelers were involved, the total potential compensation could reach $9,600-far beyond what United offered.

The viral post by the passenger has sparked public concern over baggage security, employee accountability, and the apparent lack of transparency in how United handled the alleged theft.
