Saudi plane’s landing gear catches fire on landing

SAUDIA BOEING 787-9 HZ-ARF (MSN 41549)

The landing gear of a passenger plane caught fire after landing at Bacha Khan International Airport on Thursday. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the fire erupted in the left landing gear soon after landing. Saudi Airlines flight 792 was traveling from Riyadh Air Base (XXN/OERY) to Peshawar-Bacha Khan International Airport (PEW/OPPS).

The aircraft landed on runway 35 and took a left turn onto the taxiway. During taxiing, smoke was observed near the left-hand main landing gear. The aircraft departed the paved surface of the taxiway and came to a stop with its nose gear and right-side main landing gear on the grass. Ten passengers were reportedly injured during the evacuation.

Air Traffic Control, after witnessing sparks and smoke in the landing gear, immediately informed the firefighters and rescue services. The firefighters and rescue workers quickly approached the plane and, after some effort, doused the fire, preventing a major mishap. All 276 passengers and 21 staff members safely exited the plane using an inflatable slide.
