A United airlines B787-9 declared a "Mayday" with what was thought to be a fuel critical situation earlier this morning. Sydney airport then declared a level three emergency and a police traffic control plan was activated at 6.36am with some of the major roads surrounding the airport closed as a precaution. However, NSW Police said the roads were reopened just minutes later after the plane had landed safely. United 839 with 239 passengers was traveling from Los Angeles California (LAX / KLAX) to Sydney Australia (SYD / YSSY) and landed without incident.
(Fuel critical doesn't mean you have "no" fuel left, and you have to land right away, it means you still have fuel left but you just cant hold or be diverted)
