I checked the sunrise times before I went to bed and found out the sun doesn't rise until just before 7.30, and as I knew of a lookout called Mount Victoria lookout I decided I would get up early and drive into the other side of the city to a place called Devonport. The trip took me about 35 mins in heavy rain and once I got there I discovered the lookout was closed. I went down to the waterfront and took a few photos of Auckland city and the Auckland Harbour Bridge before heading back to the airport.
Driving back the rain had stopped and the sun had come out and it turned out to be a really nice morning.

As mentioned above with the Emirates A380, they are pulling out of Auckland in both Brisbane and Melbourne as of today, that is why I flew to Auckland.. to be on the last flight.
