Brisbane Open House = Roulettes over Archerfield

Today Archerfield Airport hosted a Brisbane Open House event which included a display by the Air Force Roulettes. There were airside bus tours, the LifeFlight’s Heavy Maintenance Hangar was open for the public; Gods Acre static display & the historic terminal was also open for viewing and a few vintage cars gave the area in font of the terminal that ol' fashion vintage feel..  (hence the black and white photo)

There were food trucks and BBQ stalls, kids activities, an old fashioned photo booth and lots of entertainment.

This event is part of "Brisbane Open House" which celebrates Brisbane city’s diversity and subtropical architecture, giving visitors a rare insight into the best buildings, places and spaces, free of charge.
Archerfield Airport is home to one of the world’s oldest flying schools still operating - The Royal Queensland Aero Club (Established in 1910 as the Australian Aero Club) which celebrates pioneering members such as Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, Bert Hinkler and Lores Bonney.

The main draw card was of course the RAAF Roulette's aerobatic display which started right on time at 10am and featured their world-class formation flying. During the aerial display the Pilatus PC-9/A aircraft were flying as close as 3m apart and reached speeds of 460km per hour, and sometimes came as low as 80m. There routine was faultless and spectacular to say the least, the only downside was it was cloudy, these bright red aircraft with the con trail look fantastic with a blue backdrop but today it wasn't to be. I had a chance to these guys and talk to some of them and they are really genuine and down to earth.
