Today I headed to the airport once again but this time I was heading to a different destination, as we are opening a branch in Melbourne in February I was heading down to interview a few candidates for the position of Business Development Manager. Tomorrow being Australia Day and a public holiday I will be staying on to do some plane spotting at the airport.
My flight was at 6am so I got to the airport at 4.50am and went up to the Qantas Club for breakfast and a much needed coffee. At 5.40 I made my way down to gate 21 where my Qantas flight 605 was waiting. The aircraft for today was a B737-838 and the registration was VH-VXJ (CN 33480). They had just commenced boarding when I got to the gate at 5.43 so I lined up and once on board took my seat which was 8A. The doors were closed at 5.55 and we pushed back at 5.56.
We taxied out for runway 01 at 5.59 and after given a rolling start we lined up and got airborne at 6.03 am.
After a long right hand turn we maintained that heading for the next hour and a half, climbing to flight level 400. Our track took us down abeam Beaudesert, east of Stanthorpe and west of Tamworth and over Tocumal on the Victorian / New South Wales boarder.
We began our descent into Melbourne at 7.40 and landed on runway 16 15 minutes ahead of schedule at 8.05am. Because of daylight savings time we had to add an hour so our official arrival time was 9.05am

After the interviews I made my way over to the new warehouse and discovered that aircraft fly right over our roof and low level....BONUS!!!!
At the end of the day I headed to the airport, and with the help of a local aviation buff, I found a great spot to take photographs.
I quickly discovered this spot is ideal for departing aircraft but not good for arriving aircraft if you dont have a ladder.
