Happy 95th Birthday Q.A.N.T.A.S

Qantas was founded in Winton, Queensland on 16 November 1920 as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited and today this very strong reputable airline turns 95

   

The airline's first aircraft was an Avro 504K.
























The airline started flying internationally from May 1935, when it commenced a service from Darwin to Singapore. In June 1959 Qantas entered the jet age when its first Boeing 707-138 was delivered.


In 1920 Qantas had its headquarters in Winton, Queensland but in 1921 the head office moved to Longreach, Queensland where it stayed until mid 1930. 


In 1930 the head office moved to Brisbane but in May 1957 they moved again to Sydney.
Qantas Airways Limited is the flag carrier of Australia and it is our largest airline by fleet size, flights and international destinations. It is the third oldest airline in the world, after KLM and Avianca. The Qantas name comes from, "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services", and has the  nickname "The Flying Kangaroo".

As mentioned the airline is now based in Sydney with its main hub at Sydney Airport, Qantas also have hubs in Brisbane and Melbourne. Its subsidiaries Qantas Link flies to smaller airports within Australia and Jet Connect provide services to New Zealand, flying under the Qantas brand. Qantas also owns the low-cost airline Jetstar, which operates both domestic and international services.
Qantas operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

To celebrate their 95th Birthday Qantas will today be releasing a second Boeing 737 in retro colours from 1950.
