American Airlines pilot dies mid-flight

This is very sad to read and hear; my thoughts and prayers go out to the pilots family and friends and of course all the colleagues at American Airlines. I can't believe how calm the co-pilot was during this stressful time.

A 57 year old pilot aboard an overnight American Airlines flight from Phoenix to Boston reportedly died Monday on the red-eye flight. In audio posted online of the emergency call to air traffic control at liveatc.net, the co-pilot can be heard describing what has happened:  "Medical emergency. Pilot is incapacitated."
The aircraft (an A320) was diverted to Syracuse where it landed safely at 7:11 a.m. with 147 passengers on-board and 5 crew.  The co-pilot is heard asking air traffic control: "Do you have a way to get into the cockpit expeditiously or does the aircraft need to go to the gate?"
The cause of the pilot's death is not yet known.  "We are incredibly saddened by this event," a spokeswoman told a Boston TV station.
American Airlines flight 550 later resumed its flight to Boston.
Conversation begins at about 1:10 into the liveatc.net recording.
