C-17 fly-by over Brisbane

Today marks the 70th Anniversary of  what history calls "Victory in the Pacific" (also known as VP day) and celebrations included a fly-by over Brisbane city by a Royal Australian Air Force  C-17A Globemaster aircraft. Japan's surrender to Allied forces on 15th August 1945, spelled the end of World War II and put to bed the looming threat of a Japanese invasion of Australia.
All photos below were taken by my wife Judy; this was her first time using my 500mm lens. Well done sweetie.

While we were waiting we took a few photos of the river traffic and a few aircraft departing Brisbane heading north. Brisbane is home to the popular Kookaburra Queens; named Kookaburra Queen 1 and 11. The Kookaburra River Queen Paddlewheelers are true icons of the Brisbane River, based on the Mississippi, and Murray River Paddlewheelers. Weighing a whopping 270 tonnes each, the 30 meter paddlewheelers are powered by two 450 horsepower engines.  The vessels were aptly named because the Kookaburra is a native Australian bird that is never seen to drink water, a prophecy that all boat owners would hope to emulate!
