Auckland Airport Day 1 (Monday)

After clearing customs we collected our bags and went and picked up our hire care; having been here before for a few hours late last year on a stop over; I knew of a great viewing spot where these lucky Kiwi's can go to watch arrivals and departures, so we headed straight there for a few hours.
Auckland Airport (IATA: AKL, ICAO: NZAA) is the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand.
The airport is located in the Auckland suburb of Mangere, and it is 21 kilometres (13 miles) south of  Auckland city. The airport has two runways; runway 05R / 34L is the main runway and it is 3,635 metres long (11,926 feet) and is concrete. The second runway is slightly smaller and it is 05L /34R, it is asphalt and is 3,108 metres long (10,197 feet). The airport sits at 7 metres (23 feet) AMSL
The airport; which is owned by Auckland International Airport Limited; is the fourth busiest in Australasia after Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
Auckland Airport is both a domestic and international hub for the national carrier Air New Zealand and also for Jetstar Airways. Other airlines that call into Auckland are:
Air China; Air Tahiti Nui; Air Vanuatu; Air Caledonia; Cathay; China Airlines; China Southern Emirates; Fiji Airways; Korean Air; Lan; Malaysia; QANTAS; Singapore; Thai and Virgin Australia. From 26th September 2015 China Eastern will resume flights to Auckland and from 1st December 2015 Philippine Airlines starts regular flights from Manila via Cairns.
Auckland Airport gets 3 Emirates A380's every day from Brisbane; Sydney and Melbourne, and during the summer months Singapore Airlines change their daily B777's to A380's; giving Auckland 4 A380's a day.
One thing you will notice here and that is all of the Air New Zealand aircraft are in their colour scheme; either old or new; but they belong to a myriad of airlines like Air Nelson; Eagle Air and Mount Cook Airlines.
























You couldn't help but think we were still in Australia, as the very first two aircraft to land were QANTAS and Jetstar and then we had a Royal Australian Air Force Challenger over fly us on its way to Wellington.
