UPS plane crashes on takeoff from Louisville

A UPS MD-11 cargo plane has crashed shortly after taking off from Louisville (SDF/KSDF), Kentucky, as reported by the FAA. The incident happened just after 5 p.m. local time while the flight, Flight 2976, was heading to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL/PNHL) in Honolulu. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash, with the NTSB leading the inquiry.

UPS stated that three crew members were on board at the time, but it has not confirmed any injuries or casualties. Local authorities, including Louisville Metro Police, are handling the response, with reports of some injuries.

Eyewitnesses and local media shared footage showing thick black smoke rising near the tarmac of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
