A Qantas flight executed an emergency landing at Brisbane Airport yesterday morning after passengers were informed of a brake malfunction mid-flight.
Flight QF1929, flown by an E190 jet, departed Brisbane (BNE/YBBN) at 8:33 am heading to Adelaide (ADL/YPAD), but it turned back over northern NSW and returned to Brisbane at 9:51 am.
Passenger Tudor Vasile, speaking to the 4BC Morning's radio show, recounted that around 40 minutes into the flight, the captain revealed that the brakes were jammed, raising concerns of potential tyre blowouts upon landing.
The aircraft was rerouted, and passengers were alerted to the impending emergency landing, causing understandable alarm among those on board. Vasile described the scene as the aircraft prepared to land, with emergency vehicles visible on the tarmac, poised for action.
Upon landing, the captain instructed passengers to "brace for impact", intensifying the tension. However, the landing was successful, much to the relief and subsequent joy of everyone on board, who broke into applause and cheers.
Qantas confirmed that the aircraft landed safely following a mechanical issue and was undergoing inspection by engineers. Acknowledging the distress caused, a Qantas spokesperson expressed gratitude for the passengers' cooperation and assured that efforts were underway to expedite their travel arrangements.
Emergency services were on alert as per standard procedure for such landings.
