Bonza adds Darwin to its network.

BONZA BOEING 737 MAX 8 VH-UJK (MSN 43974)

Last week, Australia's only independent low-fare carrier, Bonza, announced it was launching nonstop flights between Queensland's Sunshine Coast and Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory. This service will save passengers hundreds of dollars each way and cut hours off a trip that currently requires a 90-minute drive south to Brisbane airport or a transiting through a hub.

Tourism is a big part of the local economy, so it was fitting that the Darwin route was launched on the Sunshine Coast at the iconic Australia Zoo, founded by legendary crocodile hunter and conservationist Steve Irwin, who tragically passed away in 2006.

In the twelve months that ended June 2023, Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY) handled 1.62 million passengers and is one of Australia's fastest-growing airports, hosting flights from Bonza, Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand. The airport services 14 destinations, including the Air New Zealand route to Auckland, and now the new Bonza Darwin service, which is the longest domestic route ever offered from the airport, setting a new record for the airline and the airport.
