Jetstar to suspend flights due to construction on runway

JETSTAR AIRBUS A321-251NX VH-OFV (MSN 11301)

Jetstar has confirmed flights between Darwin International Airport (DRW/YPDN) and Denpasar (DPS/WADD) would be cancelled between the 9th of October and the 28th of October due to construction works on the northern capital airport's runways.

The airline confirmed they had stopped taking bookings for flights between the two airports as they awaited 'confirmation that the planned works would proceed'. In a statement, Jetstar acknowledged the cancellation would be 'disappointing and frustrating ... and we thank them for this understanding'.

The statement from Jetstar revealed the order to cancel the flights was due to plans from the Department of Defence.

'Darwin Airport runway works are going ahead in October that will impact our flights between Darwin and Bali,' the statement reads. 'As a result, we can confirm Jetstar will temporarily stop operating flights between Darwin and Denpasar from Monday 9th October to Saturday 28th October 2023.'

The airline is actively contacting customers with flights booked during the three-week time period to 'discuss their options' for compensation.

Compensation plans include indirect flights through another port, travel credit or a complete refund of the customers 'original form of payment'.

'We look forward to resuming our flights from Darwin to Denpasar from Sunday 29th of October 2023'.
Flights to Bali from other airports will still run as planned as Darwin is the only airport affected.
