Another Qantas flight runs into trouble in Sydney.

QANTAS BOEING 737-838 VH-VZQ (MSN 39357)

A Qantas flight travelling from Sydney Australia (SYD/YSSY) to Nadi Fiji (NAN/NFFN) was forced to return to Sydney citing a mechanical issue.
This is the second flight in as many days a Qantas flight has run into trouble.

Flight QF101 departed at 9am from runway 16R and began its climb to flight level 370.
At 9.10am and approaching flight level 170 the aircraft levelled off, and then began its descent back down to 120. The flight maintained 120 for 90 minutes before it started its approach to land in Sydney. The aircraft landed back on runway 16R at 10.51am.

FlightRadar24 shows that the Boeing 737 aircraft did 11 seven-minute circuits over the Pacific Ocean, likely dumping fuel in preparation for landing.

The cause was a “fault indicator about a potential mechanical issue,” according to a spokesperson from Qantas.

“We thank customers for their patience, and we are working to get them on their way to Fiji as quickly as possible, a Qantas spokesperson said.”

This comes just a day after a Qantas flight from Auckland to Sydney issued a pan call, citing an engine failure as the cause.

Both flights were undertaken using Boeing 737s, one of the most popular aircraft in aviation history.

It's ironic as only a week ago, Qantas was named the safest airline in the world for 2023.
