Dalby Aerodrome

On Monday this week I had to go out to a country town called Dalby to see a client. Dalby is exactly 200km's (124.2 Miles) from my home and the trip took 2 hours 40 minutes. 

After spending around 90 minutes with the client, it was time to head back to Brisbane.

BUT...not before I visited the aerodrome out there.

Dalby Airport (IATA: DBY, ICAO: YDAY) is a small airport located 1.2 km north of the township of Dalby, in Queensland. The airport is mostly used for small private light aircraft and agricultural aviation services as well as occasional emergency aircraft including those of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The airport also sees a daily weekday return mail service operated by GAM Air using Aero Commander 500S aircraft. 

Dalby aerodrome hosts the Dalby Aeroclub, and the Dalby Hang Gliding Club and has also hosted the Queensland Easter Soaring Championships and the Dalby Big Air Hang Gliding competition.

Looking around I saw a number of agricultural aviation businesses and an aircraft maintenance business operating from the airport. 

After speaking to one of the hanger managers there, and seeking permission to walk out onto the tarmac, I managed to get shots of the aircraft parked up.

The aerodrome, which is owned by the Western Downs Regional Council, has two runways

04/22 is 1,303 meters long (4,275 feet) and is Asphalt
13/31 is 1,599 meters long (5,249 feet) and is also Asphalt


This airport does not have a control tower, so pilots are required to communicate via a Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) to safely co-ordinate arrivals and departures.
