QANTAS Founders Museum - Wing Walk

After doing the 2 hour airpark tour and now fully pumped our group headed back to the main entrance of the museum. Most left us and a few stayed on as we (including me) were going back over to the park for the famous wing walk. The Wing Walk Tour is a 90 minute exclusive tour including access to parts of the aircraft not included in the Airpark Tour. This included exploring the 747 flight deck where we get to sit in the pilot’s seat and learn about the many switches and buttons. We will then have the opportunity to walk out on the wing of the 747.

Arriving back at the park we went straight up to the top level of their new viewing platform where you can not just look over the airpark, but you have a great view of the adjacent Longreach airport terminal, the runway and aircraft parked there on the GA Apron.

From there we went back into the Jumbo but this time we were allowed to sit in the cockpit (this is were I became a child again and didn't want to leave), after that we went out on to the wing for a few photo shoots, one as a group and then one individual photo.

You know the Jumbo is massive just by looking at it, but whether your sitting in the cockpit looking out of the window or on the wing looking back at the fuselage it really hits home how massive these amazing aircraft really are.

Dimensions
Length 68.6 metres
Wingspan 59.6 metres

The wing walk is a must do if you visit the centre, but a few things to remember are the wing walk tour is only available for 12 years or older (anyone under 18 years must be accompanied by a paying adult) and you must wear enclosed shoes for the tour. Max of 4 people per tour so bookings are essential.
