On a cold, wet and windy day Brisbane said hello to another new airline servicing our normally beautiful city. Thai Air Asia X started flying in today from Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport. Thai AirAsia X is a long-haul low-fare airline headquartered and based at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok. It is a joint venture of AirAsia X from Malaysia and Thai AirAsia. On the 18th September 2013 AirAsia X signed a shareholders agreement to establish a joint venture co-operation for a long-haul low-cost airline. Thai AirAsia X Company Limited was started in which AirAsia took a 49% share. The franchise is able to keep costs down by using a common ticketing system, aircraft livery, employee uniforms, and management style.
Thai Air Asia X have ten (10) A330-300's in their fleet (4 ex-Dragonair, 3 ex-China Eastern Airlines and 1 ex-Singapore Airlines) and have on order two (2) Airbus A330-900 Neo's.
Thai Air Asia X, with the callsign of Express Wing 310, touched down on runway 19L at 11.45am, 10 minutes behind the scheduled arrival time of 11.35am.
Although you can't see it completely, it was meet with the welcoming water canon salute.
Below are some other photos I took today while waiting.
