Air New Zealand swaps Rolls Royce engines for General Electric on new 787-10

Air New Zealand has placed an order with Boeing for eight 787-10 aircraft valued at $2.7 billion, with an option to increase the number of aircraft to 20. The carrier, dropped Rolls Royce engines and selected General Electric GEnx-1B engines to power the new aircraft., after experiencing ongoing engine issues with its existing fleet of 787s, which are powered by Rolls Royce engines. The first of these aircraft will join the Air New Zealand fleet in 2022. The airline has been weighing options between Airbus (A350) and Boeing for the last 18 months and now confirmed placed an order with Boeing.

The 787s will replace all its aging  777-200ERs, which leaves the carrier a fleet of all Boeing wide-body aircraft as well as Airbus A320 family jets for shorter flights. Air New Zealand will phase out all their 777-200ERS by 2025.
