This morning I made my way to Townsville for the long awaited much anticipated Defence Force Air Show. I had a 6am Jetstar flight so I got up at 3.45am and made my way to the airport arriving there at 4.45am. I cleared security and after meeting a fellow plane spotter there we went to the Qantas lounge for breakfast. We made our way to gate 28 where our Airbus A320-232 was waiting, the aircraft for this trip was VH_VFQ. We boarded at 5.35 and I took my seat which was 10-E, a middle seat... everyone hates the middle seat. We pushed back right on 5.58am and taxied at 6.03; runway 19 was in use so we taxied out for an Alpha 3 departure. We lined up and got airborne at 6.08am, we banked right tracking over the city then after a few more vectors we made tracks for Townsville, climbing to 340. Our track took us up over the Sunshine Coast, east of Rockhampton and over Mackay and then into Townsville. We began our descent at 7.23am landing on runway 19 right on our arrival time of 7.47am.
The airshow didn't start until 1pm so we hung around the airport for an hour hoping on catching a few arrivals, but unfortunately there were no movements at all except one.
So we went looking around the airport before heading to the Strand where all the action was going to be.
