Tiger Airways Australia Pty Ltd, operating as Tigerair Australia, is one of two Australian low-cost airlines. It commenced services in Australia on the 23rd November 2007 as Tiger Airways Australia. Tigerair is a fully owned subsidiary of Virgin Australia and the airline is based at Melbourne Airport.
In October 2015, Virgin Australia took full ownership of Tigerair Australia, taking over from Tigerair Singapore. As of October 2015 Tigerair had 14 Airbus A320-232 aircraft.
From March 2016 Tigerair Australia will introduce international operations using Virgin Australia Boeing 737-838's repainted in Tigerair colours. The aircraft will be used on the Melbourne - Bali; Adelaide - Bali and Perth - Bali flights. The three 737s will remain on Virgin Australia International Airlines air operator’s certificate and will have Virgin pilots flying the aircraft but it will have Tigerair cabin crew.
