Our QANTAS flight 589 was leaving at 8.15 am so we arrived at the airport at 7am and after checking in we headed up to the food court for a quick pick me up.
Our Airbus 330-202 VH-EBK was waiting for us at gate 24; and we began boarding at 7.50; our seats for this sector was 50 G, J and K, we pushed back at 8.20am and began taxiing at 8.26am and we taxied for the full length of runway 19.
VH-EBK was first delivered to Qantas in July 2008, in December 2009 it was repainted into the QANTAS subsidiary of Jetstar, where it remained in the Jetstar fleet for 6 years. On the 12th of September 2015 this aircraft returned to the QANTAS fleet in full QANTAS colours.
We lined up at Alpha One and began rolling at 8.34, after becoming airborne we made a slight left hand bank followed by a right hand bank, maintained that heading for another 5 mins then banked right again and set course for Perth.
We climbed to flight level 380 and although we had a few slight bumps the flight was smooth and comfortable.
Our course today took us just north of Moree, over Bourke, skimming on long the coast line of the Great Australian Bight, over Norseman and then into Perth.
Western Australia is 2 hours behind the East Coast of Australia so we had to wind back our watches.
This flight is normally around 5 hours 40 mins long but we did it in 5 hours as we landed on Runway 21 at 11.32 Western Australian time.
During the flight I wondered to the back of the aircraft and was talking to one of the many friendly flight attendants named Brendan, he was extremely helpful in answering the many questions that I had.
