Brisbane international terminal evacuated.

Shortly after 8am this morning, the testing of an air conditioning unit’s heating element created a small amount of smoke which in turn activated the fire alarm.

Thousands of passengers on Level 4 of the international terminal were then evacuated, causing long delays for some departing international flights, and  major traffic congestion around the precinct, which banked up for kilometres.

When the passengers returned to the terminal, processing was being prioritised based on flight schedules.

Brisbane Airport sent out apologises for delays as a result of the morning's evacuation.

There was no impact to operations at the Domestic Terminal.
