I came across this story and thought 'I have been guilty of this myself', so I wanted share this with you.
Airline passengers are being warned of the one important thing to check before parking and leaving cars at the airport. A husband and wife returned from a recent holiday to find their car window smashed and then later discovered their home was ransacked.
An Australian couple reportedly parked their car in the Melbourne Airport's long-term parking area, like they have done many times before over the last two decades, before going on a three-day holiday last month. However, upon return, they found their car window was smashed. A document with their home address left inside the car directed the thieves straight to their vacant Morning Peninsula home. When they arrived home, they discovered their home had been broken into also.
"Every single room was trashed completely, every cupboard ransacked, every drawer, they left no stone unturned," Josh told the media.
The property was completely ransacked, with the couple returning to find their belongings strewn across the rooms of their home. The thieves also took identifying personal documents, electronics, jewellery and even clay shooting guns.
However, the most valuable belongings taken were sentimental -- a notepad that included Karen's late mother's written last words.
So, if you park your car at an airport, make sure there are no documents that would lead them to your home. If you have anything valuable, lock them in the boot out of sight from criminals.
