Engine fire on Atlas Air 747

ATLAS AIR BOEING 747-87UF N856GT (MSN 37561)

An Atlas Air flight travelling from Miami International Airport, FL (MIA/KMIA) to San Juan-Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU/TJSJ) suffered an engine no.2 fire during initial climb after takeoff from runway 09 at Miami International Airport, FL.

The flight, which departed at 10.31 p. m. radioed Miami departure and declared an emergency, stating they had an engine fire. The aircraft climbed to 3,800 before starting its descent. 

The aircraft returned to land back at MIA, 14 minutes after takeoff. 

Post flight inspection revealed a softball size hole above the no.2 engine.
