Air Canada passenger falls out of aircraft

An Air Canada passenger that was treated by emergency medical staff after he fell 6 meters to the ground from a Boeing 777-300ER after opening the rear cabin door.

According to reports, the passenger entered the Boeing 777 jet normally at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ/CYYZ)) but rather than take his seat, he proceeded to the opposite end of the aircraft and opened the rear door.

Air Canada flight 56 was due to takeoff for Dubai on the 8th of January at 9:35 pm local time but after the passenger fell onto the tarmac, the flight was significantly delayed. There were 319 passengers due to fly out from Toronto on the Boeing 777, but they were subsequently delayed by six hours and the aircraft finally departed at 3:27 am the next day.

“The passenger sustained injuries falling to the tarmac with emergency services and the authorities attending,” an Air Canada spokesperson told a Toronto news publication.

The airline was unable to confirm the extent of the passenger’s injuries from the fall or even if he was taken to hospital for further medical attention, but he did not make the flight.
