FINNAIR turns 100

FINNAIR AIRBUS A321-211 OH-LZF (MSN 2208)

Finnair, the Finnish flag-carrier, is celebrating a major milestone today as it reaches its 100th year in the aviation industry. Established on the 1st of November 1923 as Aero, it now proudly stands as the world’s sixth-oldest airline still in continuous operation.

Over the years, Finnair has evolved from its humble Finnish roots into an iconic airline recognized globally for its distinctive ‘F’ logo on the tail fins and its stylish and contemporary Nordic service, offering travelers an exceptional experience across its extensive route network. It is also a key member of the Oneworld alliance.

Finnair’s journey began modestly, carrying just 269 passengers in its first year of operation. Yet, today, it is a beloved airline with millions of dedicated customers worldwide. This centenary is a testament to its resilience and commitment to providing top-notch services to travelers.

Finnair is renowned for connecting Europe with Asia via its Helsinki hub, utilizing the shorter northern route. (However, the recent closure of Russian airspace presented a unique challenge.)

In honor of this remarkable achievement, Finnair has planned a spectacular takeover of its Helsinki home at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Customers will have the opportunity to partake in special celebrations throughout the day.

The centenary festivities include performances by the Finnair Singers, the airline’s choir, and virtual reality flying experiences that highlight the airline’s unique heritage. Departing customers also have the chance to participate in a raffle.

Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director UK & Ireland, expressed the airline’s pride in reaching this significant milestone and extended gratitude to its global customer base. He also welcomed the next generation of travelers to come aboard.

Finnair has solidified its position as one of Europe’s leading airlines, known for its modern Nordic style. It offers smooth and hassle-free connections to key destinations worldwide. The future holds great promise as Finnair continues to innovate and enhance the travel experience.

In the wake of its centenary, Finnair has made a massive €200 million investment in enhancing the customer experience and improving its long-haul flight product.
