Emergency services are at the scene of a fatal light plane crash north of Canberra.
Four people have died after the plane went down earlier this afternoon at Gundaroo, a small town near Lake George in regional NSW.
It is understood the five-seater Cirrus SR22 had just taken off from Canberra when it ran into trouble.
The aircraft departed Canberra Airport (CBR/YSCB) about 2.35pm en route to Armidale (ARM/YARM) but vanished from radar screens 16 minutes later.
NSW Ambulance, police and the Rural Fire Service were called to a property on Hadlow Drive, about 35km north of Canberra, just before 3pm following reports an aircraft had crashed and caught alight.
Authorities are working to confirm how many people were on board at the time. Firefighters have since extinguished the blaze and police have established a crime scene as they investigate.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and will attend the scene.
