AMERICAN AIRLINES BOEING 737-831 N823 NN (MSN 33211) |
The American Airlines flight was travelling from Venice (VCE/LIPZ) to Philadelphia (PHL/KPHL) when a female cabin crew member, Carol Wright, unexpectedly collapsed 2 hours into the flight on the 21st of June. Cabin crew members made 'valiant efforts’ to save her life, witnesses reported.
The pilots onboard diverted the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to Dublin Airport (DUB/EIDW) after declaring a medical emergency and landed on runway 28. As soon as the flight landed, emergency services including airport fire services and paramedics met it on the tarmac.
Ms. Wright was transported to hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead.
A passenger reported that after a while the flight was "cancelled", adding he was "not sure of the condition of the flight attendant that fell ill."
An internal American Airlines memo on Twitter posted an update on Carol. It read: "It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of PHL-based Flight Attendant and Purser Carol Wright while working a flight this morning".
