AIRMED AUSTRALIA PIPER PA-31-350 VH-HJE (MSN 31-7852074) |
My wife came to me this morning saying, "did you know a plane has crashed in south Brisbane this morning", so I went searching the news, and it had crashed in the next suburb from my home. In the below image from Flightradar24 you will see the plane and the blue dot is where my home is.
It’s understood the light plane came down in bushes near a rail corridor.
Paramedics assessed her at the scene, and she was taken to Logan Hospital with minor injuries. The plane was owned by AirMed Australia, an independent medevac service.
FlightRadar24 shows the Piper PA-31-350 aircraft departed Bankstown (BWU/YSBK) at 3.50 a.m. from runway 29C and headed for Brisbane. 2 hours and 14 minutes later, and just five minutes from Archerfield (ACF/YBAF), its destination airport, it came down in bushland.
The local Rescue 500 helicopter was also deployed to the scene.
A flight paramedic and doctor assessed the single female occupant, who had removed herself from the plane and walked clear of the wreckage.
She was found to have some minor injuries, just some bruising down to her lower limbs, and a couple of lacerations to her face. So, on the whole really, really quite well for what we see behind us, the doctor said at the scene.
"I think it's really great that she was able to get out and that she was well enough to do so and didn't have significant injuries."

“AirMed has notified the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and is assisting the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) with its investigation.”
Today's crash is the third incident this week where a aircraft has either crashed or made an emergency landing in Queensland.
