Landing gear issues

On the 9th of January a Nippon Cargo Boeing 747-8 freighter performing flight KZ-51 from Amsterdam Netherlands (AMS/EHAM) to Milan Malpensa Italy (MXP/LIMC), was climbing out of Amsterdam's runway 24 at 8.33am local when the crew indicated they had problems with their landing gear and would like to level off at FL060.

Four minutes later the aircraft stopped the climb at FL070 and entered a hold while troubleshooting. The crew reported that they had the gear down again and locked and were ready to return to Amsterdam. The aircraft landed safely on Amsterdam's runway 18R at 9.18 am, about 45 minutes after departure.

As at the time of writing this the aircraft is still on the ground in Amsterdam.

Then only a week earlier on the 30th of December 2022 an Air Canada Airbus A321 performing flight AC-299 from Winnipeg (YWG/CYWG) to Vancouver (YVR/CYVR) with 195 passengers and 6 crew, was on final approach to Vancouver's runway 08L when the crew selected the gear down, however received three red indications. The crew attempted twice more to select the gear lever up and down without success and performed a missed approach and went around. During the go around the crew successfully performed a gravity gear extension and landed safely on runway 08L about 30 minutes after the go around.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance determined the landing gear lever had failed. It is believed the lever was replaced.
