How to make early morning flights bearable

Whether you chose to explore Australia or pop across the sea to NZ, there’s plenty to do and see. Remember ‘doing’? Remember ‘seeing’? Good times that are back again, friend.

What isn’t so great, and has perhaps slipped into the back of your mind, are those early morning flights – a groggy wake up, a missed flight and lack of coffee… ring any bells? So, to ensure you make the most of your long overdue time away, here’s some tips for those early morning flights.

Don’t Stay Up All Night

We all have that one mate who thinks it’s better to stay up all night to make a 2 or 3am jet. While this can sound like a tip top idea, the truth is sleep on the plane just doesn’t measure up to sleep in a bed. Being somewhat rested means you’re less likely to miss connections or travel pickups, get into squabbles and feel rubbish.

Pack Food, You’re Not You When You’re Hungry

There’s not much worse than rocking up to the airport only to discover literally every food vendor is closed. Or, sitting on the plane and realising that 5am you is starrrrrving. Sandwiches and muesli bars etc. are always welcome. Just, make it a non-smelly sanger if you can. Cheers.

Take Advantage Of A Holiday Inn Express

This one’s a real game changer, folks. Got an early flight but want as much shuteye as you can? Stay at an airport Holiday Inn Express. Not only can you fuel up with a free brekkie but there’s also a 24-hour meal, bar and coffee service. Noice!. Each room has free WIFI, Chromecast plugin and a range of pillow types so there’s really no excuse not to. Play smarter, not harder.

Good Grief, Please Set Multiple Alarms

From multiple sources. Put one across the room so 2am you doesn’t hit the snooze between REMS. This advice comes from experience, and you know… the entire plot of Home Alone.

Be Prepared The Night Before

This sounds like it would be a no-brainer tip, but you’d be surprised how many people leave things to the last minute. We advise laying your travel clothes out – down to the socks, people! – the night before and if you can’t pack everything e.g. toothbrushes, write a list to check off the next morning.

Happy and safe travels!
