It's rusty, missing an engine, and has been sitting on a runway in New Mexico for more than 30 years — but a private jet once owned by Elvis Presley is on the market for the second time in less than two years. The 1962 Lockheed JetStar, once joint-owned by Presley and his father Vernon, is being sold "as is" on online auction site IronPlanet.
The plane is missing an engine, the cockpit needs restoring, and its once bright red and silver exterior is faded and tarnished with rust. But previous auction house GWS Auctions claimed the interior of the 56-year-old plane was in the same condition Presley left it, with the "gold-tone hardware, woodwork inlay, red velvet seats and red carpet", custom-designed for the King himself, still intact.
"It's not clear what one would do with the plane," a report in luxury publication Robb Report said.
"It would have to be disassembled and transported somewhere — although it could potentially fetch millions if it was fully restored."

Despite its reported potential, this is the second time The King's old jet has been up for auction in the past two years. The current owner paid US$430,000 ($578,000) for the plane last May — well below the estimated selling price of $2-3.5 million, according to the GWS listing from 2017.
"It may go for even less this time around," Robb Report said.
The 1962 Lockheed is one of three private jets the Heartbreak Hotel rocker owned.
Presley's collection included two other planes: the Lisa Marie, a 1958 Convair 880 named after his daughter, and the Hound Dog II, another Lockheed JetStar he bought in 1975.
Both are owned by the Graceland Estate, making the 1962 Lockheed the only privately owned plane previously owned by Presley.
"This jet has the potential of being restored, and placed on exhibit for the world to come see," the GWS listing said. The current auction ends in late July.
It is not possible to see what bids have been made, if any, but the listing had more than 100 watchers.
