Ballarat Aerodrome

The thing I love about my job is every day is different. A different place, a different job or challenge. Today I found myself in the van doing deliveries to Ballarat, 105 klms west of our office.
After doing some drops along the way I got into Ballarat around 12.30. Watching light aircraft fly over or around the city all afternoon got me excited for a visit. Unfortunately the deliveries took a lot longer than I thought but I still wasn't heading back without a quick visit to the airport.

Ballarat Airport (ICAO: YBLT) which is officially know as Ballarat Aerodrome, is located 7.4 km (4.6 miles) west of Ballarat in the outer suburb of Mitchell Park, here in Victoria.
Ballarat Aerodrome, owned by the City of Ballarat, has three (3) runways. Two asphalt runways which are
05 / 23 1,265 metres long (4,150 feet)
18 / 36 1,245 metres long (4,085 feet)

and one grass runway which is
13 / 31 568 metres long (1,864 feet).
The airport is 437 metres (1433 feet) AMSL.

This airport does not have a control tower so pilots are required to communicate via a Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) to safely co-ordinate arrivals and departures.
