Few light ones at Archerfield

We had to drop our daughter off at a birthday party in a suburb next to Archerfield airport so once we did that I, along with my wife and other daughter, had a look around Archerfield airport to see what was around.

Melbourne - Brisbane Flight

Some where along the line from visiting Sydney on Monday-Wednesday and then flying to Melbourne Wednesday night until Friday I picked up a bug along the way. Even though I slept on the flight up when I got home last night I slept solidly on the couch for another 3 hours, so I couldn't write this up last night.
My Qantas flight was at leaving at 4.10pm and boarding was due at 3.50 so I made my way to the airport at 3pm. I went down to the gate area to do a little plane spotting before my flight.

We began boarding at 3.47pm and I took my seat which was 11A, although the flight was fairly full I had no one in the middle seat which is always a bonus. As I boarded I noticed the aircraft registration was VH-VXU (CN 33723) The doors were closed at 4.08pm and we pushed back at 4.10pm. We began taxiing at 4.13 and taxied out for a runway 16 departure.

Flybe Dash 8 crashes on landing at Amsterdam-Schiphol

Just going through the news and I came across this.
A Flybe Dash 8 Q 400 travelling from Edinburgh-Turnhouse Airport (EGPH) to Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport (EHAM) with 59 POB suffered a landing accident at Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport.
The aircraft landed on runway 22 in strong winds and apparently suffered a right hand main landing gear retraction. The aircraft departed Edinburgh on a scheduled passenger service to Amsterdam at 14:21 UTC. About 15:22 UTC the aircraft entered a holding pattern over the North Sea off the western coast of the Netherlands. It left the holding about 15:38 UTC and positioned for an approach to runway 22. The aircraft landed about 15:54 UTC.
During landing the right hand main landing gear apparently slowly folded back in. The flight crew issued a mayday call after the accident and subsequently issued another mayday call, stating that they were evacuating the aircraft due to smoke in the cabin.
Airport operations had been hampered by strong winds during the day. At the time landing, wind was recorded being from 240 degrees at 31 knots, gusting to 46 knots and the wind direction varying between 210 and 270 degrees.

Aircraft Details are:
Aircraft Type: de Havilland Canada DHC-8-402Q Dash 8
Registration: G-JECP
Serial Number: 4136
Flight Number: BE 1284
First Flight: 17th August 2006 (10yrs 6 Months)

Thursday afternoon at Tullamarine

This afternoon I had a few beers with a work colleague after work and while he went home I went back out to the airport for a look.
Due to strongs winds the main runway in use was the far east west runway 09 / 27 for departures and 16 was for arrivals. Only the heavies we departing from 16 so I didnt get a chance to capture many departures this afternoon.

Being from Brisbane I don't carry a ladder with me so I rely on getting most of my photos from the fence; and as you can see I have never had an issue until this afternoon. Etihad was about 3 minustes out so I went back over to the fence line when a lady (and I use that word loosely) in an ISS car pulled up and said "you need to be 2 metres from the fence" my reply was I am only taking photos. She yelled "move back 2 metres or cope a fine". I said Etihad is on final can I please get the photos and I will leave, then she took her seat belt off and yelled "If i get out of the car you will cope a $5,000 fine for loitoring on the fence line". Not knowing if the laws down here are different I didn't argue.
I did find a rubbish bin to stand on but unfortunately the photos have a fence line in the middle of them.

Sydney - Melbourne Trip

After a few successful days in Sydney it was time to head off to Melbourne to visit our branch down there. My flight was at 4.10pm and boarding time was 3.50pm so I arrived at the airport around 3.00pm and tried my luck at some spotting before my flight.

I then made my way to gate 2 where my B737-838 was waiting and the aircraft for this trip was VH-VZA (CN 34195). We boarded at 3.57 and I took my seat which was 16A; the doors were closed at 4.20pm and we pushed back 4.22pm. We began taxiing at 4.24 and we taxiied out for runway 34R which is the furthest departure point from the airport. After waiting in line we lined up and got airborne at 4.36pm. After departing to the north and flying over the city we banked slowly right for around 30 seconds and headed out to sea before banking right again and started heading south setting course for Melbourne.

CITY OF SYDNEY

Our track took us over Wollongong; south of Canberra and Wangaratta. We climbed to flight level 370 and as most flights are, this one was smooth. We began our descent at 5.21pm and landed on runway 34 in Melbourne at 5.44pm.
I went over and collected my hire car and headed around to the west side of the airport to grab a few movements before heading to the motel.
