Jet Airways runs off runway in India

A Jet Airways 737 suffered substantial damage when it ran off the runway at Goa-Dabolim Airport (GOI/VAGO) in India. The aircraft heading for Mumbai (Bombay) Airport (BOM/VABB)  taxied out from the gate and entered the main runway then back tracked towards the runway 26 threshold. After making a 180-degree turn to align with the runway, it continued turning to the right. It continued moving forward and entered down sloping grass, then ran down the hill until it came to rest at the side of an airport perimeter road, 220 m from the side of the runway and 7 meters below runway elevation. The nose landing gear collapsed and both engines contacted the ground.
Twelve passengers, out of the hundred and fifty four, suffered minor injuries during the evacuation. None of the seven crew were injured at anytime during the incident.

The aircraft was 8 years 10 months old and first flew on the 27th February 2008.

Russian military plane crashes into the Black Sea

A Syria-bound Russian military plane crashed into the Black Sea yesterday, with no sign of survivors among the 92 on board, including Red Army Choir members traveling to celebrate New Year with troops.
The TU-54 crashed shortly after taking off from the southern city of Adler where it had been refueling.
The aircraft was travelling from Adler/Sochi Airport (AER/URSS) to Latakia-Khmeimim Air Base (LTK/OSLK).
It disappeared from radar just two minutes after it took off at 5:25 a.m. (0225 GMT).
The ministry told agencies there was no sign of any survivors at the crash site and that 10 bodies had been recovered off the coast of the resort city of Sochi, as authorities pledged to dispatch an additional 100 divers to aid in the search.
"Fragments of the Tu-154 plane of the Russian defense ministry were found 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) from the Black Sea coast of the city of Sochi at a depth of 50 to 70 meters (165 to 230 feet)," the ministry said.
Among the plane's 84 passengers were Russian servicemen as well as 64 members of the Alexandrov Ensemble, the army's official musical group also known as the Red Army Choir, and its conductor Valery Khalilov.
They were headed to Syria to participate in New Year celebrations at the air base.
There were also nine journalists and eight crew onboard.

Spotting on Christmas Eve

What do you do on Christmas Eve and you want to avoid the crowds at the shops... go to the airport and do some plane spotting of course. This time I had my little Co-Pilot (daughter) and cabin crew (wife and other daughter) with me. There were a few bonuses with todays spotting and that was there was a China Southern A330 parked at the logistics apron; Eva Air brought in their A330 in their new colour scheme and this was the first time any of us had seen the new colours and a Niugini Citation departed as well.

While we were there we got talking to a gentlemen named Barry who was there at the viewing circle to see his son (Alex) and future daughter in-law (Rachael) plane take off as they were off to Noumea on holiday. So I promised I would take a photo and post it on here for him.

After three and a half hours there I was just about to leave, (as I had to attend my companies Christmas party lunch), when a fellow plane spotter that just arrived asked me if I was there to see the Malaysian Air Force  A319, and I said "No I didn't know about it but unfortunately I have to go" I asked Lloyd if he could send me the photo. He also told me about an aircraft that was all wrapped up in Christmas paper as part of an advertisement for Gold Lotto. I asked Lloyd if he could also send me that as well, so the below two photos are courtesy of Lloyd Fox.
