QANTAS Museum at Longreach

As mentioned in the previous post today is the 100th Birthday of QANTAS Airways. On the 16th November 1920, two veterans of the Australian Flying Corps, Hudson Fysh and Paul McGinness, together with local grazier Fergus McMaster, founded what would later become the national carrier. Initially carrying mail between outback towns, the airline has grown in strength to become the airline it is today. My Family and I are here in Longreach to mark this incredible milestone in the aviation history.
Arriving at the museum the first thing we noticed were marquee's on the front lawn of the museum.. One of those marquee's were the local ABC radio station and I was asked if I would like to have a chat on the radio, which I did.

After that we made our way into the museum and fun took off from there.

We were inside the museum for a good hour and we were just about to venture outside and move on to the hangers when we were informed Tony Martin, the CEO of the Qantas Founders Museum, was about to start a presentation and the cutting of the cake to celebrate. Of course they couldn't cut the cake into 300 pieces so their chef had made 300 little cupcakes.

After the presentation the local Longreach Primary School choir performed I Still Call Australia Home and a few other tunes and they were amazing... I Still Call Australia Home always gives me goose bumps and fills me with pride.

Presentation complete and after sampling the cupcakes we headed back inside for and continued our self tour.

It was time for a well earned lunch break, and after 5 hours there we packed up and headed back to the motel room. We are going back tonight at 7.30pm for the Luminescent Longreach picture and sound experience. Luminescent Longreach is a spectacular night time light and sound experience designed to delight, entertain and inform. Stand among sticonic aircraft as world class projection mapping and 360 degree immersive sound brings the 100 year story of Qantas to life with the mighty Boeing 747 serving as a primary canvas. Told through 3D animation, traditional animation and illustration, Luminescent Longreach weaves an unforgettable narrative through time, a story of the daring spirit of early aviation, of iconic aircraft, wars, distant places and outback innovation. Luminescent Longreach is a 20 minute show.

Then we are back again tomorrow for the airpark tour and the 747 wing walk.
