Brisbane - Longreach Flight (via Barcaldine)

With Qantas airlines 100th birthday coming up on Monday (16th) and the place where it all started was Longreach, I wanted to be at the Qantas museum on the day, so today my family and I were heading to Longreach for the weekend. We got up early and the day started with two international heavies over flying Brisbane for Auckland. The first was a Malaysia A350

MALAYSIA A350-941 9M-MAB (CN 159)

followed ten minutes later by an Emirates B777.

Our Qantaslink flight was due to depart at 9am so we headed off to the airport around 7.15 arriving there just before 8am. Our to flight to Longreach included a 30 minute stop over at Barcaldine. We had to board a bus to take us out to our aircraft.

QANTASLINK DASH 8 Q 400 VH-LQK (CN 4415)

We boarded the bus at 8.28am and boarded our Dash 8 Q400 at 8.37.  We took our seats which was row 11 A-D, this was the first time my family had been on a Dash 8 and they were a little hesitant. This seat was terrible as far as a window view goes as there was a wall where the window should be. The door was closed at 9.10 and we taxied out at 9.16. We taxied out for the old runway 01R and having a rolling start we got airborne at 9.21am. After departing we did a long slow turn and ended up over flying the airport as we made our way to flight level 240.

Our track took us out over Lake Wivenhow then south of Taroom and on to Barcaldine. We began our descent into Barcaldine at 10.45 and landed on runway 01 at 11.04.

We were on the ground for 29 minutes before we began taxing again at 11.33am, and we headed out for a runway 01 departure. We got airborne at 11.38 and climbed to 10,000 feet before we began descending into Longreach. We landed on runway 04 at 11.59am and taxied to the gate.
