Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport, also know as Mascot Airport or Kingsford Smith Airport; is the largest and busiest airport in Australia. Sydney Airport (IATA: SYD, ICAO: YSSY) is both a domestic and an international airport located 8 klms (5 miles) south of the city centre, in the suburb of Mascot. It is the only major airport serving Sydney, and is a primary hub for Qantas, as well as a secondary hub for Virgin Australia and Jetstar Airways. Situated in Botany Bay, the airport has three runways, the main runway is 16R / 34L and is 3,692 metres long (13,000 feet) 16L / 34R is 2,438 metres long (8,000 feet) and the "east west" runway 07 / 25 is 2,530 metres long (8,300 feet), the airport has a AMSL of 6 metres (21 feet) .
Sydney Airport is both the longest continuously operated commercial airport and oldest commercial international airport in the world. The airport is managed by Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL). Currently 46 domestic and 43 international destinations are served to Sydney directly.
Although Sydney Airport tower does operate 24 hours a day Sydney does have a curfew. The curfew prevents aircraft from taking off or landing between the hours of 11pm and 6am. A limited number of scheduled and approved take-offs and landings are permitted between the hours of 11pm to midnight and 5am to 6am. The curfew does not stop all aircraft movements overnight, but limits movements by restricting the types of aircraft that can operate, the runways they can use and the number of flights allowed. During extreme weather, flights are often delayed and it is often the case that people on late flights are unable to travel on that given day.
Below are some of the photos I took today.

The temperature was around 35 degrees and the strong wind made it really uncomfortable to be outside, so knowing we had a very good view of the runway from our motel room we decided to head back to the room. The below images were take from either our room or the window at the end of the hall.
