As mentioned in my previous post, today marks the 90th Anniversary of the Smithy and Ulm's Southern Cross landing here at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Aerodrome, having left Oakland, USA, 10 days earlier. The aircraft, a Fokker F.VIIb/3m Trimotor, flew 11,585km and had been airborne for 84 hours, with refuelling stops in Hawaii and Fiji. (Full story follows this post) Today Alliance Airlines in their Fokker F28 MK 100 specially painted and aptly re-registered to VH-FGB did a re-enactment landing. FGB departed Brisbane at 10.10am.

and flew down the coast before returning and setting up a landing time of 10.50am.. the exact time the Southern Cross landed in Brisbane 90 yrs ago.
Watching this aircraft land and knowing the nostalgia behind it, I tried to imagine what it would be like 90 yrs ago when it did land way back then.
