Vintage aircraft crashes north of Brisbane

Emergency crews had to scramble through thick bushland after a vintage warplane (A Yakovlev Yak-52TW) went down north of Brisbane yesterday morning.

The aircraft went down just before 9am, crashing in thick scrub near North Pine Dam at Samsonvale. Firefighters, paramedics and police were forced to weave through private properties and dense terrain to reach the wreckage. An elderly pilot was winched out and flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Authorities are still trying to confirm what brought the plane down.
