Vietjet takes wing to Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane to follow

Vietjet has officially debuted Down Under as non-stop flights between Melbourne, Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City take to the skies. Brisbane enters the mix from the 16th of June, while links to other Australian cities including Darwin and Adelaide are expected to be unveiled soon.

Though VietJet is technically considered a low-cost carrier, its international Airbus A330s offer a premium cabin called ‘Skyboss Business’. But it’s not quite business class as you know it: the 12 leather seats fold out into an older-style angled flatbed.

While still early days, the airline plans to eventually boost its three times-weekly Melbourne connections to daily by December 2024.

From Melbourne Vietjet runs the following schedule.
  • Flight VJ81 will depart Ho Chi Minh City at 10:50am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, arriving in Melbourne at 10:35pm.
  • Flight VJ82 will depart from Tullamarine every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, at 12:30am, and touchdown into Ho Chi Minh City at 6:15am.
The inaugural flight to touch down in Melbourne was operated by an Airbus A330-343, registration VN-A811 and MSN 00974.

From Sydney Vietjet runs the following schedule.
  • Flight VJ85 will depart Ho Chi Minh City every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 7:30pm, landing in Sydney at 7:20am the following day.
  • Flight VJ86 will depart Sydney every Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 10:15am, and touchdown in Ho Chi Minh at 4:30pm.
The inaugural flight to touch down in Sydney was operated by the same aircraft that did the Melbourne inaugural, an Airbus A330-343, registration VN-A811 and MSN 00974.

From Brisbane Vietjet will run the following schedule from the 16th of June.
Viet Jet will be the first airline to connect Brisbane to Vietnam and will run to the following schedule.

  • Flights will depart Ho Chi Minh on Monday and Friday at 10:05am, landing in Brisbane at 9:10pm.
  • Flights will depart Brisbane on Monday and Friday at 11.10pm, landing in Ho Chi Minh City at 4:40am the next day.
