Pigeon's sucked into engine of an Aer Lingus A330

An Aer Lingus flight travelling from Dublin (DUB/EIDW) to Chicago (ORD/KORD) was forced to make an emergency landing after a flock of birds became stuck in the engine as it was taking off from Dublin Airport. It is understood that the captain told the passengers a "flock of pigeons" had hit the right-side engine of the aircraft and they need to return to the airport.

The plane had taken off from the airport's North runway at 12:10pm, however, it turned around a short time later and performed an emergency landing. The plane subsequently landed at Dublin Airport's runway 28 nineteen minutes later.

One passenger, David O'Connor said that while the impact caused "major vibrations" on the plane he added the pilot did a "top-notch job". He wrote on Twitter: "My Aer Lingus flight EI 123 from Dublin to Chicago just had a bird strike in number 2 engine on takeoff. Captain says it was a flock of pigeons.
"Major vibration after takeoff lead to an emergency landing back in Dublin.

While Aer Lingus was dealing with pigeon's, a Saudia Airlines cargo flight travelling from Jeddah-King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED/OEJN) to Kolkata-Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU/VECC) was forced to make an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport after its windshield cracked in two places while on descent into Kolkata.
The aircraft landed safely at 12:02 pm (IST).
Before the landing, the Airport had made all the necessary arrangements, but the full emergency was withdrawn after the flight landed, according to airport officials.
