Airnorth airlines has confirmed with Wellcamp Airport that from mid October this year they will be ceasing the Wellcamp - Cairns flights.
The airline contacted customers advising those booked on flights after mid-October that their flights had been cancelled. The reason for the cut in the service is due “lack of bookings.” but from the research I have done and checking the prices, customers are saying the fares are just to high.
Wellcamp Airport general manager Sara Hales said that the news of Airnorth cutting the Cairns route was "disappointing". Airnorth began flying between Wellcamp and Cairns in March 2016.
Air North is not the only airline reducing flights out of Wellcamp as last month Qantas announced that it would cut two of its flights between Wellcamp and Sydney.

Capiteq Limited, (trading as Airnorth) is a regional airline based at Darwin International Airport. Airnorth was established in 1978 and started operations on the 4th July that year. It operates scheduled and charter services in the Northern Territory, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, and East Timor. Airnorth operates fleet of 15 aircraft ( 5 ERJ 170's; 7 ERJ 120's and 3 Metro 23's)

While on Cairns;  Cairns Airport was thrown into lockdown yesterday, forcing hundreds of people outside onto the footpath. According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP),  they had to respond after a woman briefly entered a restricted area.
“At no stage was there a threat to public safety,” the AFP spokesperson said.
At about 12.30pm an alarm was triggered when a woman passed through an exit the wrong way as another person was entering, the Cairns Post reports.
“We have spoken to the lady and it is believed she forgot something and left the plane to run back to get it,” Cairns Airport chief operations officer Kate McCreery-Carr said.

The woman was said to be apologetic and embarrassed that an evacuation had to be carried out.
“She thought because she had been screened it was all OK,”
It is reported that there were disruptions to about five flights.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
No charges have been laid.

Passengers were told everyone will need to go through security for a second time and several flights had been delayed.
